Lisa's Logic (publisher's editorial)

Hi ya!

A warm welcome to our newest readers and a rowdy howdy to
our regulars. It's so wonderful to see your bright and happy face!

How in the world are you? I hope you had a wonderful week!
I've been on the run since 6:45 this morning. My rear end is
starting to drag a bit - LOL!

Elliott left town at noon for Kansas State University (KSU) to
participate in the KSU Concert Band clinic. He was nominated
by his band director to participate in a two and a half day clinic.
Elliott called me from his cell phone about 20 after twelve to let
me know they had left school. Funny thing is, I didn't ask him
to call me, he just did.  Excited? Naw
:)  Monday will bring
a new instrument into our household... the french horn. French
horn is probably one of my fav brass instruments.  It's such a
peaceful sounding instrument.  I've never told Elliott how much
I like the french horn. It's sorta weird that he's learning it next.

On to business... tonight's issue is a great one.  Your tutorial
tells about Windows and the minus, the box and the X...
There's a new contest question and I've updated the resources
page too.

Guess I'd better quit gabbin' and let you get to reading:)

If you enjoy this issue, won't you please pass it along to your
friends and associates?

  I'll see you Monday!

Windows Tips

Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons are used more than any
other - apparently:-)

These little buttons are found on every window in the right
side of the Title Bar. The minimize button is commonly referred
to as the "minus sign" but that's a kind of symbolic reduction
of the item's significance. The Close button is called the "X"
button by some, and could be correlated with the X-File if you
want to be imaginative. The buttons reside in order: Minimize,
Maximize, and Close.

Clicking the minimize button will fold up the window into a neat
little package that resides in the taskbar in button format. Try
it. Click the minimize button on this e-book right now, and
watch it transform itself via the magic of animation.

The Maximize button is next to minimize, and its sole purpose
is expand the window to full screen. No matter how small or to
what size you've adjusted a window, clicking this button will
dramatically increase your view.

After expansion, the button looks like a double set of maximize
buttons, one layered on top of the other. Click again, and the
window returns to its previously un maximized state.

Tip: Double click the Title Bar to maximize or return a window
to its previous size.

The close button will terminate your program or application. If
you haven't saved work, you'll be prompted with a message,
so don't worry about losing your valuables. If you see two sets
of "X" buttons, such as are common to word processing
programs, the lower set will close the document without
exiting the word processing program.

Product Review

Although I run anti-virus software 24/7, after the multiple crashes
I've experienced of late, I decided it might be beneficial to add a
second anti-virus program to my system.  After a number of
searches, research, multiple downloads and deletions of different
virus software, I finally found one that I liked.  Sheesh, took me
 long enough...

The one I chose is called Avast. I've been using Avast for a few
weeks now.  After I installed the program, I set my preferences
(which I found to be easy) and it was a done deal.  Since I've been
running Avast, it has detected probably 2 dozen viruses and worms
in incoming emails. It gives me the option of healing, deleting or
putting the file in a virus vault for safe keeping.

Avast has award winning technology and offer free and paid
virus software. Paid packages range in price, depending on the
amount of users required. I use the free home edtion and it
seems to be doing the job just fine.

Avast also offers an affiliate program. Affiliates are paid 25%, which
converts to $9.99 for a purchase of the Professional edition.

I like the simplicity of Avast and therefore, highly recommend
the software. If you've been thinking about adding additional
security to your computer, stop thinking and just do it!

Avast

My rating - 5 Stars

Rating chart:
5 Stars - Excellent
4 Stars - Good
3 Stars - Fair
2 Stars - Poor
1 Star  - Don't bother

Feedback

Hi Lisa,

When I woke up this morning the thermometer read
9° ~ so you can imagine how envious I was when,
a few minutes later, I opened your ezine and saw
that you were having spring-like temperatures!
Enjoy them for me too!!  Better yet, maybe they'll
move in this direction! : )

Thanks for another wonderful issue ~ I especially
enjoyed Margo Waletzko's article, "Take Action Now
... Or Fail". It's such simple advice and yet so many
fail to follow it.

Now ~ about "The Vicar" . . .

Warm regards,
Linda
